HP Pavilion 13-s128nr x360 13.3-Inch Full-HD 2-in-1 Laptop (Core i5, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD) with Windows 10 1080p

hp pavilion 13-s128nr x360 has 4 rubber spots on the back

This HP Pavilion 13-s128nr x360 is a great 13 inch convertible Windows 10 device.

For the price, the build quality and technical specs are good, but of course, not the best.

I always wanted a convertible laptop, which you can use as tablet, or touchscreen-laptop mode, with full laptop capability and an attached keyboard with it.

This HP s128nr aims at an affordable price, with premium specifications. The construction, it has a very smooth grey silverish surface plastic on the top, while the interior has black color, but not textured, this said, it is not slippery like those laptops with shiny finish plastic casing.

4 rubber finish on the back – not slippery comfortable to use.

I personally think, the outside appearance is pretty aesthetically pleasing, it has HP logo, surrounded by circle texture. On the bottom of the device, you can find 4 rubber spots that gives nice gripping feeling.

HP Pavilion 13-s128nr x360 verdict?

Battery life is not bad, getting about 5-6 hours from one charging to turned off. However, with reduced screen brightness from 100% to about 85%, when I use Adobe, MS Office, surfing and a few email, I could get slightly over 6 hours. So it is a personal preference on how dim you want to use your device, you may get different battery life. 5-6 hours is more than enough for working while I am traveling. Battery is by the way isn’t removable.

The touchscreen cannot be detached from the keyboard. Those convertibles that have detachable keyboard are lighter, but this HP Pavilion 13-s128nr will be automatically converted to a tablet when you flip the screen over, and it works wonderfully – responsive.

Because it is a compact and convertible, it does not include internal CD/DVD optical drive, so you will need to purchase external USB DVD drive, and connect it easily with your tablet using the USB port. For a touchscreen laptop that has a DVD drive, this Lenovo might be one of the alternatives, but it is not a convertible.

Why HP Pavilion 13-s128nr?

One of the reasons why this HP convertible is, this model comes with 13.3 inch full HD 1920x1080p screen resolution, read this if you want a 10 inch range, most affordable 13 inch convertible with a beautiful touchscreen, while others sold with a 768p screen at this price.

Beautiful full-HD 1080p screen

This HP x360 features 6th generation of Skylake, 2.3GHz i5-6200U processor (turbo boost up to 2.8GHz), which is more capable than i3 laptops for more snappy CPU performance.

For the memory, HP Pavilion 13-s128nr comes with 8GB of RAM, which was what I was looking for, as I did not intend to get a 4GB memory device these days. Memory is upgradeable to max 16 GB, as there is one empty memory slot with the motherboard. I suggest to use low voltage 1.35v 1600mhz DDR3 memory stick. Anyways, I don’t think you will need to upgrade a 8GB of RAM that comes with it, you will be happy using it without upgrading.

The storage is a 128GB SSD (Solid State Drive). This is, way better than a standard drive, because this will boots your machine up on the flies. If you are interested about the drive port, the SSD is installed on a single m.2 sata drive port, which supports a 80mm thick drive. I don’t recommend replacing the SSD unless you know how to do it.

In terms of booting time performance, if you are used to non-SSD drives, you will love this laptop’s booting time, amazingly fast, about 8-10 seconds to the password screen, check out this tutorial to disable it if needed. The same thing goes with apps installation. The SSD drive helps any installation process, it took only seconds to install software, even heavy software like Adobe’s. From this price point, HP Pavilion x360 is a good deal SSD powered laptop.

Surprisingly, the operating system is Windows 10 pro, not the home version, this said you will have more advanced features, such as BitLocker security, access to Microsoft Store business, etc which you won’t have on a laptop that has Windows 10 Home version. Not much bloatware installed, there is also a free trial of 365.

I feel that the keyboard is nice to use, and has appealing black color. The keys are not backlit, but nicely located and spaced, does not flex at all. Every keys work exactly as you expect them to.

For the ports, it is nice that all ports are full sized ports, not the mini ones like on a tablet. So there are USB ports, HDMI, SD card, microphone, audio, webcam (also front cam), with other ports.

I was lucky, got the deal lower here.

In summary, I am glad to only pay half the cost of a premium specs power tablet for the same or even better results. So at about 500 bucks this HP Pavilion 13-s128nr x360 absolutely worth, comparing the similar laptops that has i5 CPU 6 generation, SSD, and 360 flip full HD 1080p feature, will cost you about 200 bucks more.
