My older laptop, an AMD machine finally died, and found this Toshiba Satellite C55-C5240. I am an Architecture student, and need to run heavy programs like Autocad, Photoshop, and of course gaming sometimes. I also needed a laptop that has decent hard drive space, since each files I am working with is quite big.
Here are my impressions, after using this Toshiba Satellite C55-C5240 for a few weeks.
Thankfully got mine here (lower than other place)
The Toshiba C55-C5240 is sleek and thin, give the look to be more professional with its black textured metalized finish and the sides of the laptop, has sclupting lines which are pretty. It feels solidly built. Along all the laptop edges, you will find plastic strips around them, as to protect scratches in shipping period. This laptop has DVD drive, not a blu-ray.
This laptop is a Windows 10 ready laptop, this said, it comes with 64-bits pre-installed Windows 8.1 operating system, and every Windows 8 and Windows 7 laptops will be able to upgrade to Windows 10 once it is released somewhere between July and August 2015.
The main reason why I decided on this device was the Intel i5 processor that can overclock up to 2.58 GHz, which is more than adequate to run my programs and games. Overclock means, you want your processor to run max speed than it should be. Here is a beginner overclocking guide before you do overclocking with this laptop.
I also recommend to get a good cooling pad before you overclock, as your laptop will produce more heat. The hotter it is frequently used, the shorter life your laptop can get.

Minecraft with Toshiba Satellite C55-C5240
A little disappointing here is the screen resolution, which is not a 1080p screen, but a 1366×768. However, if you want to enjoy a 1080p movies, you can easily connect your full HDTV with HDMI port. A 3D option is included. I don’t see any bleeding pixels and the colors are reasonably true.
To play games that has recommended screen resolution of 1920x1080p, you will need set the game setting to have lower screen resolution which this laptop has.
The graphic is an Intel HD 5500, with the driver version 10.18.14.4054.
The Toshiba Satellite C55-C5240 comes with a 8 GB of DDR3L 1600MHz memory and 1TB HDD (919GB is usable, while the rest is for the preinstalled OS), which most laptops, (including this Toshiba Satellite model) in this price has max 750GB HDD.
The 8 GB memory has more power than standard 4GB, however someone mentioned, the RAM is easy to upgrade to 16 GB (2x 8GB). I would not upgrade the memory, if you are not sure how to do it, as it can void the device’s warranty.
The Toshiba C55-C5240 has 1x USB 3.0 and 2x USB 2.0, also a HDMI out. It also has one SD card reader, ethernet/wifi, Bluetooth, and mic/webcam.
The mouse buttons are firm and robust, very responsive to use.
The keyboard feels great, the keys are not backlit and not moving when you use it, and is low profile. I like the sleek keys and the number pad on the right side.
The battery life is about 4-5 hours, with intensive work, I guess you will get more with lower processing work.
