Upgrade Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 and Keeping Your Files

Upgrade Windows 8.1 to 10

I actually recorded the video about how I did upgrade Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 on July 2015, but only got time to edit and published it recently.

There are several things you should check first, before you run the processes.

These are things that I would check, before running the process to upgrade Windows 8.1 to Windows 10.

1. Check if your computer has the requirements to upgrade.

2. Backup your important files from your computer, just in case, things turns into unexpected result.

3. You should have your license key of your current OS you have in your PC.

4. Get all the updates of Windows 8.1 before you start to upgrade Windows 8.1 to Windows 10.

Creating Windows 8.1 ISO Using Your Win 8 Key To Download Files

I saw someone asked me about how to create Windows 8.1 ISO file and because I already recorded my older video, updating Win 8 to 8.1 that you can watch and read in this post, I tried that method again to create an ISO file, and it didn’t work. (I already updated that post, and it should work again.)

So because I am a typical of person who gets more curious after trying something which doesn’t work, I tried and tried again, also looking for some good resources on the internet, I finally was able to create the Windows 8.1 ISO files using this method.

Basically, all what you need is the 2 set up files for Win 8 and 8.1 (they’re in exe formats) that you can download from Microsoft website, and your Windows 8 key. The Win 8 product key has to be the valid one.

Install Windows 8.1 without key on a Windows 8 PC

Install Windows 8.1 without key

An important note before we install Windows 8.1 in this post, I must first say, that you will need valid Windows 8.1 license key to activate your OS once it’s already installed. I do this on a Windows 8 machine.

I am using Windows 8 Professional in this post. I am not sure if this will work with other versions, as I haven’t tried it yet. But I guess it will.

I am also using an .iso file as I already have it (if you haven’t read further), and alternatively, you can use a bootable USB drive.

Why should we install Windows 8.1 without key?

We shouldn’t if we want to install it on one computer.
