I have decided to try this WRT 1900AC to replace my Linksys WRT54GL which still works great, but it’s a bit outdated.
These are the reasons why I’ve been using Linksys reuters for years over other brands;
Running quiet, although WRT 1900AC is quite big in shape because of its ports, antennas, processors and other stuff, I haven’t heard any noises from the fan, because it runs and works quietly. Best price found here.
Then of course, the interface. Linksys has the best management interface for their routers in comparison with other brands, way better!
While it has so many features, God-knows-what features, you will always find what you are searching easily, and fast.
There are many firmware that you seldom see in a router, testing speed ability, monitoring bandwith, network map, etc, which are nice to have, and very useful when you have network issues in the future.
There is a power switch located on the router’s back which is a plus value if you like to power-cycle your router, it’s very convenient using this switch.
They packed the router itself in reusable box, protected with cushions, besides the router, you’ll get CD guide and small book, the ethernet and power cables, and 4 antennas.
The setup with the Linksys WRT1900AC and my home network (basic) was easy and straight forward.
More info about openwrt,dd-wrt range, etc.
In terms of performance, I noticed strength and range improvements. I am not sure if this router is the fastest, but we transferred a 700mb with 5Ghz Wireless N in under 1 minute. One of example transferring files online.
I like the USB 3.0 port too, because streaming medias with a laptop similar to this model are just faster and smoother.
You will notice the immediate difference with the older USB 2.0 at this point. You still can use it as USB 2.0 too if needed, since it has eSATA.
It’s not a cheap router, but to me this is the most effective and powerful home router that I’ve had. It’s powerful, yet easy to set up, and to manage.
