Is Asus X551MAV-RCLN06 15.6″ Notebook PC Worth It?

I have my desktop as the main computer at home, and I wanted an affordable ASUS machine to take for my classes.

I have used a Chromebook in the past years, and although it was great, it had some limitations in what I can do on it.

So I need a cheap machine where I can take everywhere, and if it were stolen, I wouldn’t regret buying an expensive laptop.

I have been searching around, and for this price, this Asus x551mav-rcln06 is the best deal available at the moment.

So far, it does the job well, it is capable to do my computing tasks, more than a Chromebook, and I knew what I can expect from a budget laptop that costs $250, there is no fancy surprises. (price can change anytime)

The only downside is the RAM isn’t upgradable, and the battery isn’t replaceable unless you remove the keyboard, as it’s located under the laptop’s keyboard, and I don’t recommend it, as you might lose your warranty. This is minor.

ASUS X551MAV-RCLN06 15.6-Inch Laptop-Intel Celeron N2830 – PROS:

Very affordable, in fact, the price changes, and I paid the best price.

Nice big 15 inch screen but still lightweight, nice to take around.

It comes with the latest generation of Intel Dual-Core Baytrail N2830 2.16GHz processor and it will boast the power automatically when necessary as it turbo boosts up to 2.41GHz.

For this price range, 4GB of RAM is a good amount of memory. It runs most of my Windows programs and even games.

I run Sims 4 almost every day, and it runs just fine. However, for heavier game like World of Warcraft, it will not run on the max, but if you set anything to the fair settings, it will run it.

You’ll be surprised with the laptop, it runs things silently and boot up in seconds.

The laptop comes with 500 GB hard drive, which is more than a Chromebook and Surface Pro 3. The hard drive will be divided into C, and D drives.

What we really rarely find on a new laptop anymore these days is the CD/DVD drive, this laptop has one. Apart of that, it has the full keys keyboard, Ethernet port, 2x USB ports (1x USB 2.0 and 1x USB 3.0), HDMI port, Wifi, VGA output, mic and Webcam. Visit Amazon to see more pictures.

  1. Sir,

Is this unit (Asus X551MAV-RCLN06) touchscreen? And if I take it to computer service (if ever) then can the battery be changed? How bout the heating?

    • Hey, No, it’s not a touchscreen laptop. The battery is not replaceable afaik. It does get warm but never too hot, have used it for 2 hours straight on my lap.
