ASUS ROG GL502VS-DB71 15.6″ FullHD Gaming Laptop,Intel Core i76700HQ with G-Sync

This ASUS ROG GL502VS-DB71 has GTX 10 graphic card series, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 graphics which is really good for a laptop, 2.60 GHz Intel Core i7 6700HQ up to 3.5GHz,16 GB of RAM, but expandable to 32 GB with its 2 slots. The hard drive is a SSD, a 256 GB M.2 NVMe SSD , a 1TB 7200RPM Hard drive storage, a 15-inch non-glossy screen which is G-SYNC panel that decreases screen stutter, lagging or other problems while you are gaming.

Appearance wise, the ASUS GL502VS looks powerful. What I mean, when you have it out of the box for the first time, you will likely think, it is a 17 inch range laptop, but it is a 15.6″ powerful laptop. It is approximately one inch in thickness, and about 5-6 pounds. It is heavy but has super power for gaming to go. The whole laptop is also thinner than older gaming laptops available.

ASUS ROG GL502VS is built from plastic material, but not all, the outer lid is aluminum, and the inside has aluminum texture and look. The back panel has RoG logo in reddish color. There are 4 rubber stands under the laptop to keep it steady and always stay in place while playing. If you really want to keep it nice, I’d get a sleeve when you are on the go.

The operating system is Windows 10, I am get used to it, so it is to me, a good OS, very snappy due to the device’s SSD, and responsive, things works super fast.

ASUS ROG GL502VS-DB71 Upgrade

There are about 10 screws to remove the back panel, and there are 2 slots of RAM inside, one slot is where the 16 GB factory memory located, and the other one is empty, so that you can expand the memory up to 32GB. For the SSD, the slot will work with a m.2 PCIe not the SATA. If you are a gamer, having a 16GB RAM is a minimal, and to have a possibility to upgrade your memory is a plus.

On the left side, there are, 1x ethernet port, 1x power port, 1x mini display port, 1x HDMI 2.0 for 4k screen, 1x USB 3.0, and 1x USB 3.1 type C gen 2 that can speed up data transfer to 10 Gbps. There fans to cool are located almost everywhere on the laptop, on the back, under the device, and in both sides.

With intensive use, the fan noise is still decently quiet, I was surprisingly impressed. The temperature was quiet good too. I did ASUS ROG GL502VS test or benchmarked it with Total War: Warhammer’s, got 66 fps at ultra setting 1080p, did not notice any throttling temperatures. Need I say more?

On the right side, there is an audio port (Headphone/Microphone Combo), 2x USB 3.0 ports, SD card slot, and a Kensington lock.

The ASUS ROG GL502VS keys are nicely spaced, and have good solid feels, the touchpad is a large one. The chiclet keyboard keys has very contrast black and red color, although, to me, it seems to be orange, the backlight is red colored and adjustable. The important 4 keys, the WASD, have orange colors on the whole keys, as these are important keys for gamers.

The 1080p full-HD 60Hz screen is fantastic! Clear, matte (non-glossy), and IPS with G-Sync quality. Read this if you want to disable the G-Sync feature, it can be enabled or disabled. The viewing angle is very good, and it does not have reflection when you want to game outside – with full brightness.

Overall I am happy with this ASUS ROG GL502VS-DB71, it is possibly the most affordable gaming laptop (purchase it here) with GTX 1070 and Gsync screen you can possibly get.

ASUS F556UA-AS54 15.6-inch Full-HD Laptop (Core i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD) with Windows 10, Icicle Gold 6th Gen i5

Two weeks use of ASUS F556UA. For the price, 550 range laptops, or lower, you really cannot go wrong with it. SSD instead of standard hard drive, i5 instead of i3 cpu, this is more than average processing power, 8 GB of RAM, full size keyboard with num pad, 1080p matte screen, decent build quality.

Buy here.

My daily computer use is checking email, working on my MS. Office, surfing Internet, and listening to music. Of course, what I am doing with my laptop can be different , but I think, to the most of laptop owners, it is comparable.

My Impressions of ASUS F556UA so far

The screen is a 15 inch 1080p full-HD display, it is clear and crisp so it is easy to read your screen, but the viewing angles are somewhat limited. It has a good brightness, and is a matte display which I really like. The screen is not the best, but for the price range, you cannot expect it to be perfect.

ASUS F556UA-AS54 is not a touchscreen laptop. This said, it may be a con for some people, but when I am using a computer, I use it without a touchscreen, otherwise, I would use my tablet.

The speakers are a bit weak, so it won’t get loud, if you listen to music daily, get a headphone or even external speakers.

The good thing about this ASUS F556UA is, out of the box you already have 8 GB of RAM and SSD, so you won’t need to swap or upgrade the system yourself to have above than average power. The combo between the 6th generation of Intel i5 processor and Solid State Drive are a good combination to handle most of your tasks.

No USB-C; 2x USB 3.0USB-C; 1x USB 3.0

I wanted to test how limited the Intel HD 520 Graphic card was, I downloaded Steam, and surprisingly, it ran TF2 on medium settings nicely, and very playable.

Gaming with this ASUS F556UA-AS54 15.6-inch laptop

TF 2
Diablo III ROS
StarCraft II was a little slaggy played with medium settings, but ran good with lower settings.

Decent device to game, but of course gaming power like this one, is built for more gaming than this model.

The keyboard is a chiclet styled, no backlit, large, very quite when you type, yet very responsive to your fingers, and it also has a 10 numeric keys, on the side.

Overall, for about this best price (buy here), ASUS F556UA-AS54 gives you more than you could expect, a 256gb SSD, 6th gen i5 CPU, 8GB RAM, 1080p full-HD resolution screen, ethernet, and a DVD drive.

How To Replace Hard Drive on ASUS F555LA

Many of Asus f555la reviewers do mention that one of the con of this laptop is the hard drive, which is a 500 GB 5400 RPM HDD, check out this post, if you want to get the similar model with a 1tb HDD.

Another affordable model, which is the k501lx, has even SSD already installed.

There was also someone who commented in the Asus x550za review post, asking if he could missed something in order to open the laptop panel.

So I recently found a good video tutorial on how to do this, and here are a few things you will need.

Things to prepare before replacing HDD

1. Small screw drivers
2. Your new Hard Drive, can be a SSD.
3. A soft cloth, in case you want to invert your laptop upside down.

I have had the  ASUS X550ZA-WB11 notebook for a few days now, and couldn’t be happier with this thin laptop. The ASUS X550ZA is the new model of AMD A10-7400P powered laptop and has dedicated video card (mid-range). I purchased it because to me it was a very good deal, right now, its under 500.

In this post, I want to write a few things that you might want to know, if you are now trying to find a new laptop.
