Main reasons why I purchased this Acer Aspire ES1-512-P84G laptop are, this Acer Aspire has a 500 GB HDD, one port USB 3.0, bluetooth 4.0, and it has pentium quad core N3540 processor. It is not the fastest laptop you can get, but for under 250, it has enough hard drive space, and you can use MS Office on it, to me, it was better than getting Chromebooks with the same price.
To do serious computing job, I have my desktop, so I bought this solely to run MS Word when I am on traveling for work, listen to music, and browsing websites.
My cons are this laptop does not come with DVD/CD or optical drive, however, if you want to use them, you can get an external, they are cheap, about 15 bucks. It also does not have lighting for caps and num lock.
Acer Aspire ES1-512-P84G Pros:
This Acer Aspire ES1-512-P84G is the cheapest device I have ever purchased in my entire life, and probably for anyone else out there. I find it’s very simple to use, and you don’t need too much times to learn something new, like Chrome operating system on Chromebooks.
The performance is decent. The processor is an Intel Quad-Core Pentium N3540, with Intel integrated Graphics, and 4GB of RAM, which is upgradeable to 8GB. If you are like me, who uses your laptop mostly for browsing web, and MS office, the speed is just more than you can expect. If you tried to game with this, basic games will run, as they don’t need “too much” RAM, just not the heavy games. If you are editing video a lot, I would not recommend this laptop, as you would find better performance on a faster laptop.
This Acer Aspire ES1-512-P84G comes with a 500GB 5400RPM hard drive, as advertised, but it’s about 450 GB free, because of the Windows 8.1 operating system that came pre-installed. Click here if you want to install another Windows version or even linux. For a portable computer or a laptop, a 450 GB space is more than you will need.
Appearance-wise, it has a simple design with diamond black color, really, but I really love its simplicity, just looks nice. It is quite light, and I have checked with my friends’ Macbook Pro, this one is actually lighter.
I have been looking for an affordable small Windows OS laptop that has a long battery life, and this one has it! The battery life is 6-7 hours!! Really great.
The 15.6 inch screen isn’t that bad, better than I expected after reading some reviews on it, but to me, it is very usable, clear enough, probably the viewing angles is something that you won’t be happy about if it’s really important for you.
About the touchpad, even though it is great, but I prefer using an external mouse whenever it is possible. The keyboard is decent, and it has numeric pad on the right. There is FN keys to having shortcuts, example holding this key and press the up and down arrow, you can adjust your volume, and left/right arrows for your screen brightness. Of course, you can do other controls with FN key.
Other features are 2x USB 2.0 ports, 1x USB 3.0 port, HDMI port, Ethernet, SD card Reader, 640×480 webcam, and a headphone/audio jack.

After comparing many similar laptops around, on their price, and features, I was convinced that this Acer Aspire ES1 model is the best deal at this price. Most quad-core laptops will cost you above 400 bucks, and it still has 7 hours battery life, the newest version of Bluetooth 4.0, and USB 4.0 and other features, so this Acer Aspire ES1-512-P84G is a very nice deal.
